Recitals
Active members of NEPTA are privileged to present their students in recital providing a performance opportunity for secure and fluent performers. Eligibility for all recitals: one entrant per teacher at each level, and student must have studied piano since September of the current academic year with this same member in good standing (dues received by September 30th). If time allows a second student may be entered at each level. Please refer to recital application forms online at for more details.
The dates in parentheses are postmark deadline dates for applications.
JUNIOR RECITALS: for students in grades K-6 who have studied a mimimum of 3 years and play at the elementary through intermediate levels.. Time Limit: five minutes (no exceptions).

INTERMEDIATE I RECITALS: for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 who have studied a minimum of 3 years and play at the intermediate level. Time limit: five minutes (no exceptions). The NANCY OLIVA AWARDS, established to encourage the artistic achievements of students of NEPTA’s independent teachers, will be awarded to three 7th graders performing in the Intermediate I recitals. Eligibility: 7th graders who are studying piano privately in an independent studio.

INTERMEDIATE II RECITALS: for students in grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 who have studied a minimum of 4 years and play at the late intermediate through early advanced levels. Time limit: 8 minutes (no exceptions). The WANDA PAIK AWARDS, established to encourage the artistic achievements of students of NEPTA’s independent teachers, will be awarded to four 8 th graders performing in the Intermediate II recitals. Eligibility: 8th graders who are studying piano privately in an independent studio.
February 12, 2012 (January 14, 2012)
COMPOSITION RECITAL: for students up to and including 18 years of age. Time limit: grades K-5: 4 minutes; older students: 6 minutes ; ensembles: 8 minutes. The ALICEPROCTER AWARD will be awarded for outstanding achievement in composition. Jazz/pop compositions will be considered for the LOUISE HODDER OLSEN AWARD (see “Jazz/Pop recital”). Scores of students’ original compositions required.

JAZZ & POP RECITAL: for students up to and including 18 years of age. Time limit: grades K-5: 4 minutes; older students: 6 minutes; Original jazz/pop compositions, improvisations, and arrangements will be considered for the LOUISE HODDER OLSEN AWARD.

20th/21st CENTURY RECITAL: for students in grades K-12. Time limit: up to ten minutes for one piece (no exceptions). Music must be at the intermediate or advanced level. Scores of original compositions required. The ALICE PROCTER AWARD will be awarded for outstanding achievement in composition.
