PHYLLIS ALPERT LEHRER is known internationally as a performer, teacher, clinician, author and adjudicator. She has given master classes, workshops and solo and collaborative recitals in the United States, Canada, Central America, Asia and Europe. The recent release of a CD featuring duets of Debussy, Schubert and Mozart celebrates a collaboration of over 30 years with piano partner Ena Bronstein Barton.
Ms. Lehrer is professor of piano and director of graduate piano pedagogy at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J. A founding member of Young Audiences of New Jersey and the International Society for the Study of Tension in Performance, she has presented regularly at conferences of the Music Teachers National Association, National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and New Jersey Music Teachers Association. Recent lectures, master classes and performances have been presented at the College Music Society, International Society for Music Education, Performing Arts Medicine Conference, Nebraska Music Teachers Association, Portland District Music Teachers Association, and the Piano Teachers Congress of New York.
Recent publications include Classics for the Developing Pianist, edited by Ingrid Clarfield and Phyllis Lehrer and published by Alfred, Inc., along with study guides that accompany books 1, 2 and 3. Also new is Personal Trainer, five volumes devoted to keyboard theory, sight playing, technique and repertoire with MIDI accompaniments, coauthored with Paul Sheftel, published by YBK publications in New York City.
Ms. Lehrer holds a B.A. in music from the University of Rochester and Eastman School
of Music and an M.S. in piano from the Juilliard School of Music. She has been honored
as a Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fellow and was voted New
Jersey Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013.
