"teaching composition to students of all ages"
Many students enjoy being creative at the piano. Find out how piano teachers can play an important role in uncovering, nurturing, and guiding the development of that creativity. Three piano teachers with notable experience in composing – Deborah Yardley Beers, Donna Gross Javel, and Ruth Shyu - will share with us their perspectives and ideas, from specific exercises involving improvisation and composition projects for students, to general thoughts on how teachers can develop such creativity in themselves and enhance their own teaching and performing work.

"THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY AS AN AID TO TEACHING THE PIANO"
Our piano students are fascinated by learning with the aid of computers. Robert Finley will illustrate how this can be done in the realm of piano education: recording lessons and emailing them to the student for listening at home; using available interactive software programs including the mysterious MIDI; teaching piano lessons via Skype to students worldwide! We'll get some step by step guidance on practical technologies and even a chance to see a short lesson to someone somewhere else in the world.
