"Repertoire to the Rescue: Pupil-Saving Pieces "

Motivating talented and committed students is easy. But what about the student who enjoys piano lessons but doesn’t always want to practice or is going through a spell of flagging interest? All of us have special pieces, “pupil savers,” that we take out to rekindle the fires of enthusiasm. Betty Reed, who has published her ideas in Clavier magazine, will moderate and also share with us during this virtual teachers’ exchange. Come with your favorite “pupil savers” and go home with a list of rescue repertoire.

Spring Program

Monday, April 7, 2008
9:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
The Wellesley Free Library *

"The Other Side of the Bench "

Our changing instruments! How often do we consider that variable when we work with our students? Changes in seasons and humidity bring unexpected changes to the sounds we coax from our pianos. Fellow member Vivian Handis, now working with the public full time at Steinert & Sons, will lead us in discussing challenges we face in maintaining our own instruments and those of our students. We'll also be treated to a close-up look at the cutting edge virtues of a digital instrument, an affordable alternative that some of our students are choosing and how to compare digital with acoustic pianos.
