Special Awards

NEPTA also wishes to encourage the efforts of its members’ students through awards in the areas of original composition and jazz improvisation.

The Alice Procter Award is given for an outstanding original composition for solo or ensemble using one piano.

The Louise Hodder Olsen Award is given for jazz improvisation.

Students are selected for these awards from the appropriate NEPTA recitals.

Nancy Oliva has endowed a fund to provide four awards each year to 7th graders who have performed in the Intermediate I recitals and who study in an independent studio.

Wanda Paik has endowed a fund to provide four awards each year to 8th graders who have performed in the Intermediate II recitals and who study in an independent studio.
